What's My Leadership Style

Some leaders may rally team members around a cause while others tap into team members' competitive drive. One of the keys to being a great leader is understanding your leadership style – how you influence others – so you can lead confidently, direct and support others, and harness your leadership strengths while improving your trouble spots.

What's My Leadership Style is a management development tool, leadership style assessment, and training workshop that identifies a person's leadership style. It helps organizational leaders, managers, supervisors, and employees improve performance and become effective leaders.

This validated assessment quickly and accurately identifies a preference for one of four behavioral patterns based on measures of assertiveness and expressiveness: Direct, Spirited, Considerate, or Systematic.

Participants will understand their preferred leadership styles by completing the What's My Leadership Style assessment. This critical information allows them to choose the most effective way to lead in different situations. 

What's My Leadership Style starts with a leadership style assessment in which individuals receive 20 pairs of actions relating to leadership behaviors. With a limit of five points, assessment takers distribute points between the two actions in each pair, indicating the degree to which they prefer either action when acting as a leader. The results identify the learner's preferred leadership style:

• Direct
• Spirited
• Considerate
• Systematic

Completing the assessment requires approximately 10 minutes. After you score the leadership style assessment, we recommend you allow approximately one hour for score interpretation, topic discussion, debriefing, and action planning. The Facilitator Guide also offers an easy-to-follow workshop outline that expands What's My Leadership Style into a two-hour program.

By taking the self-assessment and completing the related workshop and training, participants will be equipped to do the following:

• Know how to minimize style trouble spots

The Print Assessment is ideal for facilitators who prefer to oversee the scoring and administration of the assessment if you don't know who the participants will be before the class begins or if your learners do not have easy access to computers. It includes pressure-sensitive forms for scoring to aid manual tabulation.

Online Assessment Credit for Administrators

Order one per participant. You can purchase credits here for the online version of this assessment, which is administered to participants through the HRDQ Assessment Center (HAC), and includes personalized reporting, full-color charts, interpretive information, worksheets, and action planning. A detailed report is delivered electronically to the facilitator/administrator when complete.

QuickStart Train-the-Trainer (QST)

QST is a convenient, one-hour virtual coaching session for first-time facilitators of this product. You'll receive personalized, one-on-one coaching with a subject matter expert who will get you up to speed quickly and accurately so you can confidently step into the onsite. We'll answer all your questions about the facilitation of the product. And you can add additional coaching hours as needed. Your coaching session can be provided by telephone or video call at a time of your choosing.

Facilitators will also receive an HRDQ Certificate of Completion for completing the QuickStart session.
