Description

Training professionals everywhere are under pressure to prove the value of their efforts – because if they can't, management buy-in, budgetary support, and even their jobs are at risk. Learning and development programs don't come cheap, but is it really possible to put hard numbers on the impact of training, especially the more nebulous soft-skills topics such as leadership development?

Created by world-renowned experts and founders of the ROI Institute, Drs. Jack Phillips and Patti Phillips, The Bottomline on ROI workshop simplifies the process of connecting HR, learning, and performance improvement programs and projects to measurable outcomes in a clear, precise, and logical way. Guiding principles, real-world case studies, skill-development exercises, and implementation strategies help both novice and seasoned training professionals to evaluate and report results with confidence.

How it works

Combining the Phillips ROI Methodology process with the demand for an in-house training solution, we've packaged the learning into a flexible workshop that can be delivered as a half-day overview, one-day program, or a comprehensive two-day experience. And now this training resource – using the same approach that has helped thousands of organizations implement an effective ROI strategy – is available to you exclusively through HRDQ.

The Bottomline on ROI workshop introduces the Phillips ROI Methodology, illustrates how it is conducted and utilized within organizations, and provides a framework for evaluating the results of specific programs and projects. The workshop illustrates how ROI can be calculated in any situation, including soft-skills training efforts. The math is simple to apply, and skill-development tools such as case studies, exercises, and worksheets assist in the transition of theory to application.

The content is organized in a flexible, modular format that can be delivered as a half-day, one-day, or two-day learning experience. ROI certification is not a prerequisite to facilitate the workshop, but it's highly recommended that trainers have an understanding of the ROI process and have conducted at least one ROI study in advance of the program.

Learning outcomes

From small businesses and major corporations to educational institutions, non-profits, and government agencies, the guiding principles and proven framework introduced in The Bottomline on ROI workshop make it an excellent solution for ensuring investments in learning and performance improvement are aligned with your organization's objectives.

By the end of this workshop, participants will:

  • Identify the drivers of ROI.
  • Make the business case for ROI.
  • Bust the myth of measuring ROI for soft-skills training.
  • Understand the ROI Methodology.
  • Learn the guiding principles of ROI.
  • Develop program objectives at multiple levels.
  • Conduct a briefing on ROI.
  • Explain how to achieve business alignment.
  • Explain to clients how ROI works.
  • Identify seven of the 12 Guiding Principles.
  • Describe the ten steps in the ROI Methodology.

Uses and applications

  1. Reaction and planned action
  2. Learning
  3. Application
  4. Business impact

  6. Intangible measures

The Phillips ROI Methodology can be applied to a wide range of initiatives, including:
